Methodology

The products in our database aren't selected at random. Every item is sourced from real ultralight backpackers' packing lists built on Packstack. When hikers add gear to their loadouts, those products feed into our catalog — so the database reflects what the community actually carries on trail, not just what's available on store shelves.

Our ultralight gear database aggregates product specifications directly from manufacturer listings, covering 2,022+ products across 15 categories. Each product's weight is sourced from official specs and normalized to a consistent unit for accurate comparison.

When a product has multiple variants (e.g. different sizes or colorways), the lightest variant weight is displayed in the comparison table. You can expand any product row to see individual variant weights and specifications. The "vs Median" column shows how each product compares to the median weight in its subcategory, making it easy to identify genuinely ultralight options at a glance.

Products are organized using the same category system as Packstack's packing list builder, so categories map directly to how you think about your gear loadout. Our database is updated regularly as new products are added and existing specs are verified.
