Privacy Policy

Packstack, LLC ("Packstack," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website www.packstack.io, the web application at app.packstack.io, and the Packstack mobile apps for iOS and Android (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

You can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address, or with Google or Apple. We collect your email address. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we also receive the name you have on that account (Apple may give us a private relay email address instead of your real one). We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

Profile Information (optional)

You can add a username, display name, bio, profile photo, and links to your social media profiles. This information appears on your public profile.

Hiker Profile (optional)

To calculate calorie, food, and water estimates, you can enter your body weight, height, year of birth, sex, and body type. We use this information only to calculate those estimates for you. We do not make it public, use it for advertising, or send it to the AI providers described below.

Content You Create

We store the gear in your gear closet (including weights, prices, quantities, notes, and condition), your trips (including locations, dates, and notes), packing lists, kits, photos you upload, and other content you create, so that we can provide the Service.

Purchase Information

Purchases of Packstack Pro are processed by the platform you buy through: the Apple App Store, Google Play, or, on the web, Stripe through RevenueCat Web Billing. We never receive or store your full payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage purchases. RevenueCat receives purchase receipts and history, subscription status, and your Packstack account ID, so we can unlock Pro features on every device you use.

Usage and Diagnostic Information

In our apps:

• Mixpanel records which features you use (for example, creating a packing list or sharing a trip). These events are linked to your account ID, and in the web app also to your email address and username.
• Sentry receives crash and error reports, including device or browser details and your account ID, email address, and username, so we can find and fix bugs.
• Google Analytics for Firebase records app installs, sign-ups, and purchases in the mobile app, linked to an app instance identifier and your account ID, so we can measure our app ads. On iOS, it also checks whether a sign-up came from one of our ads by comparing a one-way hash of your email address on your device; your email address is not sent to Google for this.
• Expo receives basic, non-identifying performance and usage data from the mobile app, such as app version, platform, and launch counts.

On our website (www.packstack.io):

• Plausible Analytics collects aggregate page view and visitor data without cookies and without identifying you.
• Ahrefs Web Analytics collects aggregate website traffic data.
• Google Ads conversion tracking uses cookies to measure whether visitors who arrive from our ads go on to sign up or download the app. When someone who arrived from one of our ads creates an account, we send Google the ad click identifier and a one-way hash of their email address to report the sign-up and any first purchase. See Section 3.

Mobile App Permissions

The mobile app asks for one permission: Photo Library (add only), used only when you choose to save a trip summary image to your photos. You can change this at any time in your device settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including syncing across your devices
• Create and manage your account and unlock the features you have purchased
• Calculate weight totals, calorie, food, and water estimates, and over-packing warnings
• Research trail details and product specifications to fill in your trips and gear
• Send sign-in codes and other emails about your account
• Send occasional product updates, which you can unsubscribe from at any time
• Understand how the Service is used, fix bugs, and build new features
• Measure the effectiveness of our advertising
• Respond to your questions and support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Web app (app.packstack.io). We use cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in. The app also stores analytics identifiers in your browser's local storage for Mixpanel.

Website (www.packstack.io). The Google Ads tag sets cookies so that Google can tell us when a visit from one of our ads leads to a sign-up or app download. Google may use these cookies under its own privacy policy. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these cookies are set only if you accept our cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. Plausible does not use cookies.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Service Providers

We use these providers to run the Service. They process data only to provide their services to us:

• DigitalOcean: hosting, database, and file storage for the apps
• Vercel: hosting for our website
• Resend: email delivery
• RevenueCat and Stripe: purchases and billing
• Apple and Google: sign-in, app distribution, and in-app purchases
• Mixpanel, Sentry, and Expo: product analytics, error reporting, and app diagnostics
• Plausible, Ahrefs, Google Ads, and Google Analytics for Firebase: website and app analytics and ad measurement
• Anthropic and Serper: to research trail details (such as distance, elevation, and typical temperatures) and product specifications, we send trail and location names, the month of your trip, and gear brand and product names. We do not send your name, email address, or hiker profile.

Content You Make Public

When you share a trip, anyone with its link can view the trip and its packing lists, without an account. Trips you publish may also appear in public listings on our website and be indexed by search engines. Your public profile (username, display name, bio, profile photo, and social links) can be viewed by anyone. Think about what you include before you share.

AI Assistants You Connect

If you connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to your Packstack account, we share the data you authorize, such as your gear closet, trips, and packing lists, with that assistant at your direction. What the assistant's provider does with that data is governed by its own privacy policy. You can disconnect an assistant at any time in Settings under Connected apps.

Legal Requirements and Business Transfers

We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal process, such as a court order or subpoena. If Packstack is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States. We use industry-standard measures to protect it, including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account and its content from our systems right away. Copies in our backups are removed as those backups expire. Our service providers keep analytics and error data for their standard retention periods. We may keep some information longer where the law requires it, such as purchase records.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
• Receive a portable copy of your data

You can edit most of your information directly in the Service, and export your gear closet as a CSV file. For anything else, contact us at support@packstack.io.

Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account and all of its data yourself at any time: in the mobile app, open the menu and go to Account Details, then Permanently Delete Account; on the web, go to Settings, then Delete account. You can also email support@packstack.io and we will delete it within 30 days. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play; cancel those in your store account settings.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us at support@packstack.io.

9. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information. Our website's Google Ads conversion tracking may be considered "sharing" under the CCPA; you can opt out by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser, or by contacting us. 10. International Users

If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information is transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
