Naturehike Cloud UP Review

The Naturehike Cloud UP is a budget double-wall, 3-season tent with footprint included. It's dry and light for the money, but the 2P is really a solo tent.

Overview

The Naturehike Cloud UP is a double-wall, three-season backpacking tent made from 20D silicone-coated nylon. It has one front door, one vestibule and a matched footprint in the box. It’s aimed at hikers who want a weatherproof shelter without cottage-industry prices. The catch is space: the 2-person is a generous solo tent rather than a comfortable tent for a pair, and the 3-person is the version that actually fits two adults.

Performance

Setup

The Cloud UP pitches around a single aluminum pole set that forks into a Y at the rear. The pole ends seat in grommets, the inner tent clips to the spine, and the fly goes over the top and buckles at the corners. Owners report pitching times under five minutes. The structure holds its shape without stakes, but the foot corners need to be pegged out to open up the full interior volume. The footprint comes in the box, which many competitors sell separately.

Interior Space

This is where the 2P falls short of its name. The 210 × 125 cm floor works out to about 28 square feet, and sloping walls plus a 105 cm peak make it feel smaller than that. Reviewers report that tall sleepers, roughly anyone over six feet, end up with head and toes against the walls. Owners on Reddit tend to call it a 1.5-person tent. It suits one adult with a pack, a dog or a small child. It does not suit two adults on full-width pads.

The single door compounds the problem. Whoever sleeps at the back has to climb over the other person to get out, which gets old on a wet night with a nervous bladder.

Weather Resistance

Rain protection is the Cloud UP’s strongest suit. Owners describe years of use through hard thunderstorms without a leak, crediting the silicone-coated fly, taped seams, steep side walls and extra guy-out points. The 3P’s fly is rated to 4,000 mm. The fabric is thin, so campsites should be free of sharp sticks and rocks. This is not a tent to drag over granite.

Wind performance depends on orientation. The tent is a wedge, and pitching the narrow foot into the wind lets it shed gusts. A broadside hit deforms the walls, though the aluminum poles spring back. Users report it holding through sustained 40 mph winds with gusts above 60 mph, with a loud, drumming fly. The included stakes can bend in hard or sandy ground, and owners commonly swap in sturdier ones such as MSR Groundhogs.

Ventilation and Condensation

A rear vent and side tie-outs pull the fly off the mesh. Even so, single-door designs move less air than two-door ones, and humid nights bring some moisture to the inside of the fly. Owners get the best results by staking out the clips along the bottom edge of the inner tent, which widens the interior and tightens the fly. They also pull the fly forward to give the foot of the tent room to breathe, and keep sleeping bags clear of the walls.

Weight Accuracy and Durability

Naturehike’s published weights hold up. Owners report that actual weights land within an ounce or two of the spec, which is unusual at this price. Longevity is the weak point. Long-term users say the walls begin to sag noticeably after roughly 100 nights, even with a careful pitch. The 20D nylon is a proven tent fabric, but it rewards gentle handling at setup and when packing.

Choosing a Version

2-Person (1,380 g). The lighter, smaller tent, packing to Φ12 × 45 cm. It suits one hiker who wants room for gear inside, or a parent and small child. The compact pack size also lets a solo hiker choose a smaller pack. Two adults will find it tight, and anyone over six feet will find it short.

3-Person (1,850 g). The 3P adds about 470 g (roughly a pound) over the 2P. The floor widens from 125 to 180 cm, gains 5 cm in length, and the peak rises 5 cm to 110 cm. Owners describe it as comfortable for two and cramped for three. Packed, it grows to Φ18 × 51 cm, and Naturehike lists the total packed weight at 2.4 kg. It keeps the single door and single vestibule, so the climb-over-your-partner problem remains.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Low weight for the price, with the 2P starting at 1,380 g
  • Pitches in about five minutes
  • Footprint included
  • Reports of leak-free performance through heavy storms
  • 2P packs small
  • Published weights are reliable

Cons

  • The 2P is cramped for two adults and short for tall hikers
  • One door means climbing over a tentmate to get out
  • Broadside winds deform the walls
  • Walls sag with extended use
  • Thin 20D fabric demands careful site selection
  • Condensation takes active management
  • Stock stakes bend

Who Should Buy This

The 2P suits solo backpackers who want a dry, inexpensive shelter with space for gear. It also works as a first ultralight tent or a backup for experienced hikers. The 3P is for couples who want a double-wall shelter with room to spread out and who will accept the extra pound. Hikers over six feet tall should skip the 2P. Two adults who both need quick night exits, or who sleep on full-width pads, should look at a two-door design such as the Naturehike Mongar 2.

Verdict

The Cloud UP is an honest, weatherproof tent at a modest price, and it delivers on its weight claims. Buy the 2P as a roomy one-person shelter and the 3P for two people. Budget for sturdier stakes, and expect to guy out the walls as the tent ages.
