At 14g and ~$11, the TOAKS WSC-01 titanium windscreen is hard to beat for alcohol stove setups — if you can live with its sharp edges and modest 110mm height.
Overview
The TOAKS WSC-01 is a flat-pack titanium windscreen aimed squarely at ultralight backpackers running alcohol or solid-fuel stove systems. At 14g and around $11, it costs about as much as a burrito and weighs less than four pennies. TOAKS pairs it with their own alcohol stove as the intended combo, and that framing matters — this is not a universal windscreen, and understanding that from the start will save you some frustration.

Wind protection
The WSC-01 does what a windscreen is supposed to do. Users report it works well in real windy conditions, and that lines up with what you’d expect: a continuous titanium baffle around your stove eliminates the main culprit in alcohol stove inefficiency. If you go with an alcohol stove, you’ll definitely want a windscreen of some type, and this one covers the basics.
Build quality and material
The thin-gauge titanium is a point of contention in user feedback. It’s a very thin windscreen — somewhere between aluminum foil and a foil pie tin — but it holds its shape and is very light. That’s an honest summary. It won’t rattle around or crumple in your pack, but don’t expect the rigidity of a proper sheet-metal baffle. The upside of going titanium over aluminum is real though: it won’t melt alongside your camp pot and burner if it gets too close, like soft aluminum ones sometimes do, especially if your pot base has a heat exchanger.
Packability
The windscreen folds to 1/10 of its original size and is equipped with four support rods for stability and convenience.
Rolled up and tucked into the included nylon drawstring bag, it disappears easily into a side pocket or inside your cook pot. The nylon bag does double duty keeping those sharp edges from contacting other gear — more on that below.
Height limitations
The 110mm (4 3/8”) height deserves scrutiny. At 23 inches long, it wraps around all TOAKS stoves with plenty of room between it and the stove for airflow, and at just over 4.5 inches tall, it protects the flames from wind. For a low-profile alcohol or Esbit setup — burner sitting flat on the ground — that height is adequate. But if you’re running a taller rig, say a canister stove with a fuel canister that extends several inches above the ground plane, this screen will fall short. One reviewer noted that even with the smallest BRS stove on a small fuel canister, the screen is too short. Know your stove geometry before you buy.
Canister stove compatibility — a safety note
This point is non-negotiable: a windscreen should not be used with an on-canister stove because it can trap excessive heat and lead to fuel exploding. The WSC-01 is not designed for fully encircling a canister stove. It can be opened into a half-arc to partially block prevailing wind while leaving the canister exposed, but that’s a workaround, not the intended use. If your primary stove is a canister-top burner, look elsewhere.
Sharp edges
This is the most consistent complaint across every retailer’s reviews. Users call it effective and lightweight, but note you have to be careful with the edges — one user dulled theirs down with steel wool. That’s a practical tip worth stealing. The edges are genuinely sharp out of the box, especially around the ventilation holes punched along the bottom. TOAKS acknowledges this — sharp edges are flagged as a usage note on the product page. Handle it with gloves the first few times, or spend five minutes on the perimeter with steel wool or a fine file.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- At 14g, it’s one of the lightest windscreens available in any material
- Titanium won’t melt or corrode the way aluminum alternatives can
- Folds compactly; nylon storage bag keeps it contained and protects other gear
- Right-sized for small pots common in ultralight setups
- Priced under $11 — low financial risk
Cons
- Sharp edges are a genuine hazard out of the box and require mitigation
- 110mm height is marginal for anything taller than a ground-hugging alcohol stove setup
- Thin gauge titanium feels insubstantial; won’t inspire confidence in heavy wind without careful placement
- Pairs specifically with TOAKS alcohol stoves — not the right tool for canister systems
- Not suitable for fully encircling a canister stove due to overheat/explosion risk
Who Should Buy This
The WSC-01 makes the most sense for ultralight backpackers running an alcohol or solid-fuel (Esbit) stove system who want titanium durability over aluminum and are counting every gram. It pairs naturally with TOAKS’s own titanium pots and alcohol stove. If you’re a thru-hiker or weekend warrior with a sub-100g cook kit as the goal, this windscreen earns its half-ounce easily. Canister stove users, skip it.
Verdict
For an $11 piece of titanium that weighs 14g, the TOAKS WSC-01 punches well above its price. It does its job — blocking wind, improving alcohol stove efficiency, and packing down to nothing — without fuss. The sharp edges need attention before your first trip, and the 110mm height puts a ceiling on compatible stove setups. Within those constraints, it’s a no-brainer add to an alcohol stove kit. Rating: 7/10.
