With Ron & Johnny from Moncton & Saint John, New Brunswick, made the 2-hr drive to Cape Chignecto early Friday morning. Day 1 was Red Rocks (via beach access) to Eatonville & onto Seal Cove (20 km). After initial climb to ridgetop, the trek was pleasant along the river to Eatonville though became more technical (rocks, roots) as we reached the coast & its spectacular views. Campsite #1 at Seal Cove was great! Tent pad for Johnny & lots of trees for Ron & I to hang our hammocks. We enjoyed a spectacular sunset on the beach. Temps dipped to -2 or so overnight. Day #2 started late (10 am departure) & with a big climb out of the cove. The coastal trail was more technical than previous day & we took frequent breaks at lookouts for views & photos. After 5 hrs hiking, we were all tired in late afternoon approaching Refugee Cove (17 km from Seal Cove). We were greeted in camp by our new friend Patrick (met last night in Seal). We cleaned up, setup our shelters & headed to the beach for supper & campfire, returning to our camp after dark. Another cold night just below zero but we all slept well, getting up by 7 am for an early start. On the trail by 8:45, we began another big climb out of the cove but were energized for our last day, a shorter one than days 1 & 2. Trail passed thru hardwood ridges (not yet leafed out) with wildflowers on the floor & nice views of the bay. A steep descent into Mill Brook warranted a break before the long, steep climb out of the valley, followed by more woodland walking & then the descent to the beach & back to Red Rocks. We celebrated with a lunch at Irving Big Stop, Aulac, before arriving back home for a well deserved rest.
